Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

  • Pick up from Kigali and start the scenic 5–6 hour drive southwest to Nyungwe.
  • En route, visit cultural and historical sites such as the King’s Palace in Nyanza or the National Ethnographic Museum in Huye.
  • Drive past lush tea plantations and rolling hills.
  • Arrive in Nyungwe, check in at your lodge, and relax with dinner.
    Accommodation: One&Only Nyungwe House (Luxury) / Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel (Mid-range) / Guesthouse (Budget).

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk

  • Early morning breakfast, then head out for chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest with experienced guides.
  • Spend magical moments watching chimpanzees in their natural habitat.
  • Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
  • In the afternoon, embark on the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walkway, suspended 50 meters above the forest floor for breathtaking views and photo opportunities.
  • Evening at leisure at your lodge.

Day 3: Colobus Monkey Tracking & Return to Kigali

  • After breakfast, go for colobus monkey tracking or a guided forest hike along one of Nyungwe’s scenic trails (like the waterfall trail).
  • Enjoy birdwatching and spot colorful orchids along the way.
  • Return to the lodge for check-out and begin the drive back to Kigali, arriving in the evening.
